Access to clean water is the biggest global challenge of the 21st century.

Water is critical for all aspects of life. Yet nearly 800 million people now lack basic access to clean water, and according to a recent report published by the World Health Organization, by 2025, more than 50% of the global population is projected to live in water-stressed areas.

Demand for clean water will continue to increase due to the convergence of population growth, contamination of freshwater resources, and climate change.

A solution to the water scarcity problem must be environmentally benign.

It is critical to avoid the crippling resource tradeoff between energy and water, that is, the so-called energy-water nexus. To that end, solar-driven water evaporation using sunlight is a promising sustainable strategy.

However, due to the need to overcome the heat of vaporization, the water production rate via solar technologies remains insufficient to meet practical demands. Overcoming this barrier is critical for establishing solar purification as a future technology to improve clean water access. At AquaPao, we believe we have a solution.
